Great Places to Stay in Fuerteventura

Just off the coast of Africa by Morocco lies the small island of Fuerteventura, which is part of the collection of islands known as the Canary’s. Fuerteventura may get less publicity than some of the other islands such as Ibiza or Tenerife, however there is certainly no shortage of beauty here.  The island boasts a variety of hotels and resorts that have a laid back atmosphere you might not expect, so let’s take a look at some of the best of them.

The North
You will find plenty of hotels and apartment complexes all across the coast of the north, and there are some great spots to choose here. By far the island’s best hotel is Atlantis Bahia Real Grand and you won’t have to spend a fortune staying here. Situated in a quiet beach front location between the harbour and nature reserve, the Atlantis Bahia Real Grand excels at understated luxury. There is also a fantastic restaurant and spa on the grounds and you can get a double room from £133.
Alternatively, you can check out Atlantis Dunapark is a four star hotel close to the harbour with reasonable prices, and double goes for around £40. There are also two hotels that have been built in the nature reserve before the planning regulations were changed. The better of the two is Hotel Riu Palace which has some absolutely stunning views across the dunes.
The Centre
The hotels and resorts in the centre of the island became increasingly more popular after the Spanish Golf Open was held here in 2004. The main visitors here are golf lovers and family groups and it can lack the atmosphere of other areas of the island but there are still some great spots to choose from.
Hotel Barcelo is a large and friendly beach complex with some impressive facilities such as tennis courts, a miniature golf course and a lively kids club. There is also a nightly in house theatre which shows a different movie every two weeks. Doubles here go for around £64.
Should you wish for something more secluded and peaceful, there is the Hotel Elba Palace Golf with its onsite 18 hole golf course. Doubles here cost slightly more than other places in the area, starting at £104, but you have free access to the golf course meaning it draws plenty of golf fans.

Flights
The island enjoys year round sun shine with the temperatures never dropping below 20 degrees. Flights to  Fuerteventura take around three hours although there are no direct scheduled flights from Britain, only charter flights from various airports around the country.
The South
The seas around the south of the island are quite windy meaning that many windsurfing enthusiasts choose to stay on this side of the island. Hotel Riu Palace Jandia is a large package hotel situated on the promenade and has some great doubles for £71 including breakfast.
There is also the more intimate Hotel Riu Palace El Palacete located at the south end of the beach which has a pool terrace that gives you superb views across the Moro Jable while you relax. Doubles here start at around £96.
