Things to Do in the Languedoc Region

Languedoc is an extremely popular tourist destination in the South of France, and is the perfect spot to take a summer holiday. It is famous for its beautiful rolling countryside and fantastic wine, with some of the most popular spots being the Cap d’Agde and Palavas-les-Flots. It is also extremely popular with history buffs, as the region contains the historic cities of Toulouse and Montpellier. So book your family into a luxury Languedoc villa and find out what you could be getting up to this summer in one of the most beautiful French regions.
Montpellier
Montpellier is the principal city of the Languedoc region, and is well-known for its fantastic architecture and fascinating history. If you’re thinking about staying in or visiting this stunning city, be sure to check out some of the sights such as La Place Royale de Peyrou, the botanical garden and La Cathédrale Saint-Pierre, There are also some interesting museums for those of you who like to learn a little something on holiday, and there is a nearby zoo which is perfect if you’re visiting with kids.
Sports
The Languedoc region is growing in popularity as a sporting region. The sea conditions off the coast are perfect for windsurfing, or if you prefer to windsurf in a lake, head to Gruissan to practice your windsurfing in slightly less choppy waters. The region is also brilliant if you’re a happy hiker, as the countryside is exquisitely beautiful, and is best appreciated on foot. The region is bordered by rivers, so is good if you want to try your hand at canoeing or kayaking.
Wine
Probably the thing the Languedoc region is best known for is its incredible wine. While this is probably one for the grown ups, the glorious surroundings make it a good place to take a tour of the vineyards, and children can join in with a sophisticated glass of grape juice. The vineyards of the Languedoc are some of the most famous in the world, and are known for producing some of the finest varieties of wine, so be sure to pick some up before you return home.
Pyrenees
On the border with Spain stands the majestic Pyrenees mountain range. This is a good spot for hiking or for budding photographers, with the dramatic landscape stretching out for miles. It is well worth a visit to the Pyrenees as part of your Languedoc visit, and is a great way to see a completely different side of the region.
